Launched in August 2018, Emory Immigrant Legal Assistance (EILA) is a collaboration between Emory Law and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the "LDS Church") to provide brief legal advice and referrals to metro-Atlanta Immigrants.
On the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Emory Law students volunteer alongside local immigration attorneys to provide brief advice and referrals on immigration and related issues.These monthly clinics are held virtually via Zoom and are coordinated by a paid, part-time student administrator and lead immigration attorney who recruit student and attorney volunteers, and market the opportunity to local immigrant communities.
Law students interview individuals and brief an immigration attorney who then advises the individuals about their rights, referring them to local immigration non-profit organizations and private attorneys, when needed, for further assistance.
Participating law students do not receive academic credit, but do receive pro bono credit toward Emory’s pro bono recognition program.
