NALP (National Association for Law Placement) member law schools collaborate to offer job search resources to students and graduates from various schools. This cooperation, known as reciprocity, aims to enhance career development support for students and alums at ABA-accredited and NALP member law schools.
Attention Emory Law Alumni: If you are interested in requesting reciprocity with another institution, please take the time to fill out the Emory Reciprocity Request Form. It is essential to understand that if your request for reciprocity is granted, you will be required to thoroughly read and adhere to the host school's specific reciprocity policy. Failing to comply with these policies may lead to the revocation of your reciprocity privileges, which means you would lose access to the benefits associated with the agreement. To ensure a smooth and successful experience, please familiarize yourself with all guidelines and requirements set forth by the host school.
Reciprocity for Schools Situated Outside Georgia:
Below are the detailed guidelines regarding the availability and conditions of these services:
- Eligibility for Reciprocity Services: Reciprocity services are available on a one-on-one basis exclusively to students and graduates of ABA-accredited law schools that are members of NALP.
- Geographic Limitations: During each reciprocity period, reciprocity will be restricted to one of the five ABA-accredited law schools located in the state of Georgia. The eligible institutions include Emory University School of Law, Georgia State College of Law, John Marshall Law School—Atlanta, Mercer University School of Law, and the University of Georgia School of Law.
- Access to Job Listings: Reciprocity services permit access to Emory’s curated job listings for 30 days at a nominal fee of $30. Note that reciprocity guests are not permitted to upload documents to Emory Symplicity and therefore must apply directly to employers via email, fax, U.S. mail, or through the organization’s career portal. When applying, applicants must indicate on their applications that they have received access to the job listing through a reciprocal agreement with Emory Law.
- Renewal of Reciprocity: Reciprocity may be extended, provided that a new request for reciprocity is submitted. However, it is essential to note that no reciprocity requests will be entertained between May 1 and November 31, during the peak summer and fall recruitment seasons.
- Limitations on Participation: Reciprocity guest students and graduates are not permitted to take part in formal recruitment programs and do not have access to password-protected sections of the Center for Career Development’s website. This restriction ensures that these exclusive resources remain available primarily to Emory students and graduates.
- Career Advising and Additional Services: Services such as one-on-one career advising, document review, employer mailings, resume referrals, and in-person access to the Law Career Center are not available to reciprocity guests. To ensure focused support, these services are reserved for current Emory Law students and graduates.
- Denial of Services: The Center for Professional Development reserves the right to deny reciprocal services to any particular law school if that institution makes an excessive number of reciprocity requests. This measure is in place to maintain a balanced approach to service provision.
- Issues with Reciprocity Recipients: Emory University School of Law reserves the right to inform the requesting school and potentially revoke privileges if any issues or concerns arise regarding an individual who benefits from reciprocity services.
- Request Process: All reciprocity requests must be initiated via email from the guest student or the graduate’s Career Services Office. Requests should be directed to:
